On my first Christmas away from Home.

A very merry Christmas and happy Holidays to all of my readers! This is actually the first Christmas I have ever spent away from home; I am on a trip in Peru with my boyfriend and his family. We were in Lima for two days, and now we are in Cusco. It is so lovely and beautiful here. It is a much warmer Christmas than I am used to, but I am not complaining!  The locals are very festive in their own ways–they sell panettone cakes at just about every shop, and the markets are strung up with lights, and today there were small children throwing bang snaps everywhere on the streets.

Besides enjoying the scenery, we have also been eating quite well. In this picture is a tres leches cake  I ate in Lima yesterday. I thought it looked quite pretty, and it tasted even better. Today one of the streets we were on was filled with vendors selling all sorts of fruits. The air smelled so sweet and delicious.  I ate some watermelon as well as some fruits I do not know the name of, but they were very tasty. One of them I liked in particular tasted something like a mix between a honeydew and a peach.

What sort of Christmas traditions does your family have, if any? I would love to hear about them in the comments. Regardless of whether you celebrated today or not, I hope that your day was safe and warm and full of joy, as always.

Lolita Fashion In Media: Cat Street

Welcome to the first entry in a new series, Lolita Fashion in Media! In this series, I aim to cover all appearances of lolita fashion in various media over the years. Today I will be focusing on a certain character from an old shoujo manga called Cat Street. It was actually through this manga I was first exposed to lolita fashion, so I thought it would be the perfect first post.

On the first snow of December.

I made this little fairy myself, out of a glass ornament, sequins, feathers, and an unusual amount of patience.

My housemates were making chocolate frogs all morning; now the house smells of chocolate. Pure chocolate hurts my throat, so I made myself a mug of white chocolate peppermint tea and sipped it while watching the snowfall.

This is the season of sleep. Not restful sleep, but drowsy sleep, the kind that just makes you more tired. It starts with the days getting shorter, and gets worse when it snows. Cursed snow. I wish I could sleep until March.

My other half is returning home in seven days. I hope I will be less sleepy then.

On the rather mild start of the Holiday season.

It has been unseasonably warm as of late, so today, I ventured out by foot into the nearby shopping centre. I sat in a cafe in the company of a cup of Earl Grey and The Secret Garden. I read this book a very long time ago, but I have since misplaced that particular copy, and so when I saw this cute pink clothbound copy at the Renaissance Faire a month ago I knew I had to buy it! It is really an enchanting story.

Unfortunately, I am very sensitive to caffeine, and I found myself becoming more and more excitable, to the point that my heart was pitter-pattering and I could not sit still to read a book anymore. (To be honest, this happens 7 out of 10 times I drink tea or coffee, but I just can’t help myself sometimes.) So I walked around the rest of the plaza and did some Christmas window shopping, enjoying the free smells of pine needles and rising dough in the farmer’s market, as well as sampling a bit of perfume. I took the long way back through the little nature trail on campus. There is a little bit of path where you need to hop on stones in a shallow creek, and it always makes me feel so delightfully girlish.

Today was certainly a relaxed sort of day, but soon enough I will be caught in the flurries of final exams and holiday festivities. I do so love the holidays, they are the only thing that gets me through that dreary first winter month–besides cider and cocoa, of course.

On starting this Blog.

These days, blogging as it once was seems to have fallen out of fashion. Platforms like Tumblr and Instagram have largely replaced more traditional blogs, where images were there to supplement the text, and not the other way around. I have used both of these websites, and although they are convenient and great in many ways, the romantic in me longs for the days when blogs were a bit more personalized. Lately I’ve been looking at old WordPress and Geocities websites, even using the Wayback Machine to look at some blogs that have long since been deleted. I find myself wishing these types of websites to come back in style—and I thought, why not start my own? “Be the change you wish to see in the world”, and all that.

So will you join me on this journey? If even one person takes a bit of inspiration or joy from this blog, I think I shall be very happy.
